He was born April 26, 1921 in Wayne County, IL to John George Wright & Eliza (Graham) Wright. He married Linda Frank on December 5, 1963 in Louisville, IL. He worked in oil field construction, was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church in Clay City, was a past member of Clay City Odd Fellows and Clay County Civil Defense. George enjoyed camping, fishing and spending time with his family.
He is survived by his wife: Linda Wright of Clay City; children: George Wright of Clay City, David Wright of Georgia, Jerry Wright, Naomi Murphy & husband Roger of Flora, Mary Sterner & husband Tim of Glen Carbon and John Wright & wife Kyley of Fairfield; 1 sister: Florence Dunlap of Clay City; 12 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, along with several nieces & nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, 1 son (LeRoy), 1 grandson, and 5 sisters (Vern Beasley, Grace Settles, Hazel Settles, Opal Wells & Beulah Stine).
Private graveside services were held Saturday (May 2, 2009) at Wright Cemetery in rural Wayne County. Frank & Bright Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be made to Clay County Hospice and will be received at the funeral home.
