Elizabeth left Hamburg on 25-11-1874 aged 25 with her husband Jens Petersen 31 and their 2 children - Christine aged 5 and Johanne aged 6 months - on the FITZ REUTER

The weather was `very heavy` and the ship took on great quantities of water and lost it`s foremast and they had to set back to Cuxhaven.
One family caught scarlet fever in the town and were left behind.
They set off again on 10th December with only 371 adult passengers, many, fearing another voyage went home.
Four days out to sea scarlet fever and typhoid fever broke out on board.
A total of 13 deaths and 5 births recorded.

Elizabeth died aged 81, 14 months after her husband . .
