He was a son of Bernard and Rosa (Grieshop) Heckman. On May 8, 1946, in Newport, he married Amelia DeLoye, who preceded him in death.
Surviving are five sons, John (Maruja), Clifton, VA, James Robert (Adele), Portland, IN, Joseph (Joyce), Monroe, NJ, William (Mary Beth), Yorkshire, and David (Karen), Minster; six daughters, Martha (Jerome) Barhorst and Margie (Don) Eilerman, all Ft. Loramie, Rita (Stephen) Monnin, Botkins, Ann (Mike) Krietzer, Arcanum, Mary (Jerry) Siegrist and Kathleen (John) Geise, all Sidney; two brothers-in-law, Raymond (Mary Ann) DeLoye, Houston, and Robert (Rosalee) DeLoye, Yorkshire; thirty four grandchildren and twenty one great-grandchildren.
Deceased are a daughter Alice Heckman and two grandchildren.
He was a member of St. Nicholas Catholic Church and Darke County DAV, Men's Sodality of Church. He served in the Army during World War II where he received the Purple Heart. He worked as an organic farmer and a dealer in organic and natural fetilizer and was the owner of Heckman Spreading Service.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at the church, with Rev. David Zink officiating.
