Philip Reynold Grandstrand was born in Shafer Township, MN, May 19, 1903, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Emil Grandstrand. He was baptized in the Immanuel Lutheran Church at Almelund.

In 1915 he moved with his parents to the Sandberg farm at Shafer, MN, where he attended school and grew to manhood. He was confirmed at the Chisago Lake Lutheran Church at Center City in 1918. He attended Minnesota School of Agriculture, was graduated from Minnesota College, and continued his education at the University of Minnesota evening classes. He served as the clerk on the town board of Franconia Township for 8 years.

On July 3, 1937 he was united in marriage to Nan Malmberg of Lindstrom, MN. For several years thereafter the couple lived in Wisconsin where he was manager of oil cooperatives.

For the past 12 years he has been employed by the State of Minnesota first as livestock weigher and later as Excise Tax examiner Petroleum Division, having resided at Chisago City, MN until the time of his death.

Three children were born to this couple, two sons, Charles and David who are employed in Minneapolis, and a daughter Phyllis who is enrolled in the Swedish Hospital School of Nursing.

He became ill due to a heart ailment and was hospitalized July 5, 1963. he departed this life on July 20, 1963 at the age of 60 years, 2 months, and 1 day.

His wife, Nan, two sons Charles and David, and daughter Phyllis are deeply saddened by his passing. He is also survived by 3 brothers, Edward of Almelund, Dave of Center City, and Clifford of Shafer, MN.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, July 23, 1963 at Zion Lutheran Church, Chisago city with pastor Kermit Youngdale officiating. Mrs. Philip Lindbloom was organist and Mrs. Lillian Johnson was the soloist. Pallbearers were: John Brand, Elmer Olson, Edward Webb, George Sprain, Leonard Noreen, and Chester Engdahl.

Interment was at Chisago Memorial Park, Chisago City, MN
