Opal Virginia Myers, 91, of Amma died April 28, 2009, at Thomas Memorial Hospital following a short illness.

Opal was a devout Christian and lived that life every day. She was the oldest surviving member of Pine Grove Memorial Church, Amma, in which she was still active and made apple butter every year as a benefit for the church. She also cooked at the Amma Grade School, Amma, until its closing. Opal loved to garden and quilt and loved to share all of this with everyone.

Born May 5, 1917, in Gabe, she was the daughter of Willie M. and Lessie M. Phillips Lowe.

Opal was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 53 years, Lincoln G. Myers; sisters, Jeminah Jane Lowe, Patricia Louise Lowe, Gatha Lowe Payne, Maxine Lowe Haynes and Faye Lowe Gandee; and brothers, Orville Lee Lowe, William Lowe Jr. and Bobby Joe Lowe.

Opal is survived by her daughter, Shirley (Ira) Naylor of Walton; sons, Russell (Luisa) Myers of Navarre, Ohio, Robey (Ella) Myers of Amma, and Benny (Brenda) Myers of Poca; granddaughters, Diane (Bob) Mace of Amma and Vicki (Steve) Merry of Navarre, Ohio; grandsons, Dick (Wanda) Myers of Powhatan, Va., Russ (Nancy) Myers Jr. of Strasburg, Ohio, Ira Dallas (Jennifer) Naylor of Harrisburg, N.C.; great-granddaughters, Breanna Mace of Charleston and Ashley (Percey) McGee of Navarre, Ohio; great-grandsons, Lowen (Sarah) Mace of Elkview and Taylor Myers; great-great-grandchildren, Carlyle and Trey McGee of Navarre, Ohio, and Colton Mace of Elkview; brother, John (Jewell) Lowe of Spencer; sisters, Madelyn Elswick of Amma, Betty (Jim) Grady of Hurricane and Wanda Elswick of Sandyville; several nieces and nephews; and many, many friends.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to Dr. Christopher Skaggs, the doctors and nurses at Thomas Memorial Hospital, Roane County Ambulance Service and the many friends who have been there during this trying time.

The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 2, at Pine Grove Memorial Church, Amma, with the Rev. Jack McCune and Kenneth Boggs officiating. Burial will be in Myers/Jarrett Cemetery, Amma.Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Myers Funeral Home, Elkview.In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Pine Grove Memorial Church, 10906 Charleston Road, Walton, WV 25286, in memory of Opal V. Myers.
