Son of John Stanfield and Mary Sherrof Stanfield.Sampson Lafayette Stanfield was an early settler in Kentucky, moving to Knox County about 1804, having received land for his service during the Revolutionary War. He was married to (1) Easter Merritt, and (2) Nancy Jane Thomas. His farm was in Sandy Flats, KY. His headstone was discovered on what had been his farm and moved to Briar Creek Cemetery in 1985.
