Jacob Hengtgen died March 20, 1924, of liver cancer, at the Mt. Lake hospital, age 63 years, 1 month and 23 days; born Jackson Co., IA January 27, 1861; married Wilhelmine Walters (Walter) in Nebraska in 1886; after their marriage they moved to Plymouth Co., IA, where they remained for 22 until coming to Cottonwood Co. in 1910; they were the parents of thirteen children, Johnnie and Walters, both died in infancy, Elizabeth Manderfield died 1919, Edward B., married and living at home, Mary, Frank, Anna, Leo, Clara and Margaret married and living on farms nearby; Lena, Florence and Roy at home; also survived by two sisters, Mrs. Peter Miller and Mrs. Urban Stolz, both with him when he passed, a step-mother, four half sisters, three half brothers, twelve grandchildren and a host of friends; services were held at the M.E. church and burial at the Jeffers Cemetery.
