Maudie Lillie Gillian ("Miss Maudie") age 98, of Conway passed away Saturday, September 9, 2006. She was born March 1, 1908, at Mt. Levi, Arkansas (Johnson County) to the late Jackson and Dicie (King) Poteet.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Hiram E. Gillian and a son, Weldon Wayne Gillian.
She is survived by a son, Dr. George E. Gillian and wife Vivian Gillian of Little Rock; a daughter-in-law, Ruby Jane Hanes Valderez of Dallas, Texas; four grandsons, Weldon "Jay" Gillian of Dallas, Dr. Kevin Gillian and wife Dr. Monjari Gillian of Alexandria, Virginia, Dr. Kris Gillian and wife Reema of Atlanta, Georgia, and Kipp Gillian of Long Beach, California; and two great-grandchildren, Serena and Blake Gillian of Alexandria.
She was a retired employee of the International Shoe Factory and a homemaker. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Conway and the Mary Mitchell Circle and the Open Door Sunday School Class. She and her late husband were active youth counselors for the Methodist Youth Fellowship (MYF) for over 20 years. "Miss Maudie" was a sponsor for the girls (DBS) High School Sorority for many years, allowing them to meet at her home every Sunday. She and her husband were always helping the youth with their activities long after their own family was grown. They loved being the chaperones for youth activities and their home was always open to loving friends.
Funeral services will be Saturday, September 23, at 1:00 p.m. at First United Methodist Church with Rev. Charles Murry officiating. Interment will follow at Crestlawn Memorial Park. Visitation is Friday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Roller-McNutt Funeral Home in Conway.
