Graduated from Fosston High School in 1950 and married Leslie Weinstein in 1957; three children born to this union. They were divorced in 1964, and in 1966 he married Judith Hostrup in 1966; two children: Eric and Carrie.
Forrest received a B.S. degree from the University of Minnesota in 1954 and served in the U.S. Navy Air Force as a pilot until 1963. He was a pilot for Pacific Southwest Airlines headquartered in California.
