Rev. James Lester Banks Sr., 74, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on April 23, 2009, at 6:10 p.m., after a short illness. James is survived by his wife, Mary Kay Banks, Republic; three children and their spouses, James Jr. and Telika Banks, Springfield, Pam and Ted Roberts, Republic, and Don and Christine Banks, Avondale, La.; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and three brothers and three sisters, all of Iowa. James was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Mary Elaine Banks; his parents, Ray and Nellie Banks; and step-mother Inez Banks. James was an ordained Baptist minister and attended Charity Baptist Church in Springfield. He was employed at the Republic Wal-Mart as a door greeter, and he was well known and well liked throughout the community. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, April 27, 2009, in Meadors Funeral Home, Republic. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery, Republic. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made in James's name to the American Heart Association.
