Dr. David S. Moore, Sr., for many years one of the leading physicians of this country, died at the South Highland Infirmary in Birmingham last Friday afternoon. While he had been in declining health for some time the direct cause of his death was pneumonia. He became ill at his home at Clarence about ten days ago and was removed to the hospital where his sons, Dr. D. S. Moore, Jr., and Dr. J. G. Moore, could give him their personal attention.

Dr. Moore was a native of Georgia and was eighty years of age. He moved to this county in 1869 and ten years later graduated from the Atlanta Medical College and began his practice of medicine in the community where he lived at the time of his death. He retired after practicing medicine for over 50 years.

Dr. Moore was recognized as an authority in many lines of his profession. He served more than one term as president of the Blount County Medical Society and was for many years a member of the Board of Censors.

Dr. David Sanders Moore, Sr., was born in Georgia on March 19, 1852 and died December 9, 1932. He was the son of Robert M. Moore and Nancy J. Watson Moore

Dr. Moore married Susan Nunnally, March 25, 1875. Their children were: Taliaferro Clarence Moore, Robert Jackson Moore, Mary T. Moore, Flavius Manion Moore, Susan Florence Moore, Aldon O. Moore, Earl Moore, David S. Moore, Jr., Joseph Grover Moore.

In 1883 he built one of the early houses and named the community Clarence in honor of his oldest son. Taliaferro Clarence Moore.

In 1982 the name was changed. See this under the bio of Susan Moore.
