WILLIAM ADAMS, JR., one of the eleven children of pioneers William Adams, Sr. and Margaret Ewart Adams, was born in York County, South Carolina, January 8, 1785. By that time, the Adams family had become well established and William, Jr., as had his father before him, was destined to become a well-to-do farmer in the Crowder’s Creek section of York County. He was a member of Bethel Presbyterian Church and served as a deacon and elder for many years. In his young manhood, he married Rebeckah Hope (8/6/1787-12/19/1824), a daughter of John Hope and Jane Meek of York County. Among their children were John Hope Adams, Robert E. Adams, Susan M. S. Adams (McCully), William James Adams, Jane Meek Adams (Barnett) and Margaret E. M. Adams.
William Adams, Jr. died at his Crowder’s Creek farm home on February 26, 1870, at age 85, and is buried in Bethel Presbyterian Church cemetery with his family. Rebeckah died December 19, 1824,at age 37, according to an entry in the family bible and inscription on her tombstone, and is buried at Bullocks Creek Presbyterian Church in southwest York County beside her parents.
