THE PARIS NEWS, Monday, June 21, 1999, page 4B: 'Bertha Evans, 90, of Paris died Sunday at Paris Nursing Home. Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 23, at Bright-Holland Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Fred Fangio officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation will be from 7-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Mrs. Evans was born Aug. 27, 1908, in Amy, Texas, to William Franklin and Isadora Wilson Clayton. She married Howard S. [Steven] Evans Aug. 24, [sic] 1926, in Paris. He died Feb. 8, 1986. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Paris. Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Bonnie Sue and Roy Phillips of Paris; three grandsons, Kelly Betterton and wife Sonya, Kyle Betterton and wife Teri, and Kraig Betterton; six great-grandchildren; and a nephew, Bill Clayton. She was preceded in death by a brother, Morton Clayton, and a sister, Irene Coker.' *Lamar County Marriage Book 35, page 520 shows marriage date of 14 Aug 1926.
