Lived in Birsfelden, Canton of Basel-Land, Switzerland for a time and for a job as a Silk Weaver (Posamenter). Moved to America in 1882, arrived NY on 7 Sep 1882 on the Ship "Amerique", dep. Le Havre, France, final dest. St. Louis, Missouri. His wife and children (4 daughters) followed later.
After a short time in Delfile, Missouri (1883) he and his family moved to Paterson NY, well known as the "Silk City".
His parents were Johann Bäumle (1810-1870) and Maria Baumgartner (1808-1864, both of them natives of Harpolingen, Baden.
Robert Bäumle was the maternal Grandfather of Robert Baumle Meyner, Governor of New Jersey 1954-1962.
