W. Newton Bailey of Route 4, Staunton, died suddenly at his home Sunday afternoon.
A son of the late Henry and Sarah Katherine Koiner Bailey of Ft. Defiance, he was born on Oct. 29, 1879. He was educated in the Augusta County schools and Augusta Military Academy. After his education, Mr. Bailey taught school for several years and later became engaged in farming.
Mr. Bailey was a member of the Laurel Hill Baptist Church and served as a deacon and Sunday School teacher for a number of years.
Mrs. Bailey, who was Addie K. Furr, preceded her husband in death several years ago. Surviving is one son, William N. Bailey Jr., at home and the following brothers and sisters:
Miss Lillie Bailey, Mt. Crawford; Mrs. Lollie Singleton, Stuarts Draft; Mrs. Clyde Rosen, Mt. Jackson; Mrs. G.C. Carpenter, Mt. Crawford; George Bailey, Elkton; R.I. Bailey, Harrisonburg; Ben and C.A. Bailey, both of Staunton.
Funeral services will be conducted at the Laurel Hill Baptist Church Tuesday afternoon.
