Thomas was the son of Joseph "Joel" & Jane Kendrick Carlock. He had one sister, Sabra, who was two years older than him. Sabra married John Ross in Maury Co, TN, on November 28, 1833.

Thomas married his first half-cousin, Virginia Jane Love, in Maury Co, TN, on November 27, 1838.

They had the following children: Joel Thomas, Samuel, John Andrew, Clara, Edom, Anna Diana, Sabra E., William James & twin sister, M.A., Lucretia A., & Thomas Houston.

Thomas & Jane Love, ages 34 & 35, lived in Hickman Co, TN. Their children were Joel, age 9; Samuel, 8; John, 7; Dianna, 6; Edom, 5; Clara, 3; & Sabra, 2.

Thomas was working as a laborer.

T.K. & Jane, ages 44, lived in District 2, Maury Co, TN. Their post office was located in "Isoms" store. They lived on a farm (personal wealth valued at $335) adjacent to his half-brother, John Love, age 40, a widower living with his children. Virginia Jane died in October 1876. Shortly thereafter, Thomas & some of his children (William James, Sabra Love, Lucretia) & husband, John, went to TX. They were living in Johnson Co, when William married Hettie Jane Williams on November 23, 1878.

On June 25/26, 1880,
Thomas K. Love, age 65, widowed, lived in Enumeration District 81, Johnson Co, TX. Other members of the household included his two daughters, Sabra E., 28, & Lucretia Pitney, 24, & her husband, John K. Pitney, 22. Thomas & John were farming to support the family. The census record indicated that Thomas's father was born in S.C.
