Mrs. Violet Williams Cartee, 42, died Saturday morning at St. Margaret Hospital, Newport, Tenn., after two days of illness. Mrs. Cartee was a native of Cherokee County and had lived in Newport for four years. She was the daughter of the late Ed and Ophelia Jameson Williams. Mrs. Cartee was a textile worker and a member of the New Prospect Baptist Church.
Services will be held Tuesday afternoon at 3 in the Cooley Springs Baptist Church. Rev. Carl Page and Captain Jack Edwards will officiate. Burial will be in the Cooley Springs Church Cemetery.
Survivors include: husband, Clarence W. Cartee, of Spartanburg; two sisters, Mrs. Fred Parris of Rock Hill, and Mrs. Dorothy Padgett of Hinesville, Ga.; and brothers, James E., Martin, and Robert Williams of Gaffney and Jesse Williams of Rock Hill.
Mrs. Cartee is also survived by two half sisters, Mrs. Grassin Coggins of Gaffney, and Mrs. Earl Griffin of Newport, Tenn., and two half-brothers, Julius Williams of Kings Mountain, and Coleman Williams of Cherryville, N.C.
Active pallbearers include: Jesse Mills, Gene, Larry, and Wayne Cartee, and Junior and Carl Parris.
