Morrell Mathews McMullen Jr., 88, of Lake Jackson, Texas, passed away at his home on March 24, 2009. He was born September 11, 1920, in Lufkin, Texas, to Morrell and Louise McMullen.

He attended Vanderbilt University before WWII and served in the Army Air Corp during the War.

He completed his pharmacy education at the University of Texas at Austin in 1948. In Lufkin, Morrell practiced at Memorial Hospital and Westside Pharmacy until 1954. From 1954 until 1989 he practiced at Velasco Pharmacy and later McMullen Drug. He was a member of Velasco Baptist Church and later the First Baptist Church of Lake Jackson. Morrell loved to spend time with his family and friends, play golf, read and watch sports on television.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife of 46 years, Myrl McMullen.

He is survived by three children, Gene McMullen (Debbie) of Angleton, Martha Cordell (Jim) of Vail, Colorado and Pam Freeman (Mark) of San Antonio; one brother, Hollis McMullen (Callie) of Quitman, Texas; one sister, Martha Jo banks of Madison, Alabama; eight grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews; and a dear friend, Christine Palmer.
