ORAN, Mo-Blanche Marie "Sally" Asmus, died at 4:18 a.m. Feb. 27, 2001, peacefully at her home at 804 State Highway W in Oran.
Sally was born Feb. 10, 1939, to Joseph L. Spalding and Mary J. Enderle Spalding of Benton. On July 15, 1961 at St. Denis Church in Benton, Rev. Fr. Holmes performed the wedding ceremony in which she married her beloved Alfred Charles Asmus, who survives of the home.
Her father; her brother, Joe "Amos" Spalding;and her sister, Martha Ann Dempster, preceded her in death.
Sally was employed as a drive-up teller at Union Planters Bank in Oran. She was a member of St. Ann's Sodality, member and past president of KC ettes, past member of Guardian Angel Home and School Association, past Guardian Angel School Board member, and a volunteer as room mother and teacher's aide at Guardian Angel School many years.
She was a recipient of Knights of Columbus Council 4311 Wife's Appreciation Award for her many contributions and years of service to the council.
Sally was a devoted wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, daughter, sister, friend and co-worker, who will be missed by many.
She is survived by sons and daughters-in-laws, Mark and Carolyn Asmus, John and Tammi Asmus of Oran; daughters and sons-in-law, Teal and Kent Mangels of Oran, Tina and Jeff Scherer and Tara and Gary Mason of Benton. She is also survived by nine grandchildren; sisters, Mary Alice Schweer and Ida "Susie" Roper of Benton and her mother, Mary Spalding.
The visitation at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Oran is scheduled for 4 p.m today, with parish prayers said at 6:30 p.m. and Knights of Columbus prayer service at 8 p.m.
Her Funeral Mass will be on Thursday at 10 a.m. at Guardian Angel Catholic Church.
Pallbearers will be Melvin O. Schweer Jr., John "Pete" Ulmer, Joe Wayne Spalding, Patrick LeGrand, Danny Joe Asmus and Carl Landewee. Honorary pallbearers will be David D. Asmus, Christopher B. Asmus, Reece A. Mangels, Chase M. Asmus and Garrison C. Asmus.
In lieu of flowers, family requests that donations be made to the Guardian Angel School Endowment Fund in her loving memory.
