Theda Vernice Kunz Moulton Gjerdman Peterson, 87, died April 20, 2009, at Rexburg Homestead Assisted Living. She was under the care of Aspen Home Health and Hospice.
Theda was the first of five children born to Ellis and Jessie Thompson Kunz on July 29, 1921, in Cedron, Idaho, just northwest of Victor, Idaho, in their home by the Teton River. She went to grade school in the one-room school house in Cedron and attended Victor High School.
She married Lester E. Moulton of Victor, Idaho, on October 19, 1939, in Logan, Utah. They had four children. She worked on the farm and grew a large garden. During the time she was raising her family, she served as the Relief Society President and in other teaching positions. Then when her kids were raised, she moved to Jackson and worked there. Theda later moved to Salt Lake City where she studied and worked in interior design.
On January 24, 1970, she married Erik Gunnar Gjerdman in Salt Lake City. During this time, she worked at the Family History Center with her sister. They did group sheets for all their family members and an amazing family tree. Gunnar passed away April 12, 1974.
She then met Ray Lars Peterson. They were married June 22, 1979, in Heber City, Utah. She filled her time with making hundreds of beautiful quilts for all of her and Ray's many kids, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Ray passed away June 15, 2005. Theda then went to live with her daughter, Coreen Weeks.
Theda joined her precious son, Neal, in heaven April 20, 2009, and all her other precious loved ones who have passed on before her.
She is survived by her children, LaReta Prohaska, Coreen Weeks, Sheryl (Nolan) Jones, Jerry (Teddy) Peterson, and Vernon Peterson; sisters, Nada (Alma) Duersch and Shirley (Vic) Williams; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, April 24, at Wood Funeral Home East Side Chapel, 963 S. Ammon Road, with Bishop Vic William officiating. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 25, in Redwood Memorial Estates, 6500 S. Redwood Road, Salt Lake City, UT 84123 (801) 969-3456.
