He suffered with Bright's Disease for 3 years and most of that time was an invalid. He was born and lived all his life in Reading except during his war service. At age 16 he joined with Co. A, 88th Pa. Inf. and was elevated to the rank of 1st Sergeant. Served in nearly all the major battles of that regiment and for the entire war duration.
After his discharge on July 19 1865 he married Miss Mary E. Traut. She died only a few months before he. He worked as special officer for the Pa. Railroad Co. He is survived by a brother William, sisters Ms Rose Bowman, Ms. Emma Springman-Phila., and Ms Harrison Briel of Shamokin.
