He is also survived by two brothers, Oliver, of Marengo, Iowa and Wm. Of Nebraska. Also two sisters, Mrs George Richard Hinmon (Delilah) and Mrs Martha Stevens (Martha) of Collins, Iowa. Besides his immediate family, he leaves a large number of grandchildren and friends to mourn his death.
[Waverly Republican obituary, 10 Jun 1909, Thu, p.4]

Catherine Smith was the daughter of Jacob Smith and Catharine Randolph. The Smith's had left Ohio for Grant County, Wisconsin in the late 1840s. Catherine's brother William Custer Smith (and wife Mary Ann Munson) settled fairly early in the Bremer County area (the Smith's lived on a farm just the other side of the Bremer/Butler County line in Fremont Township in Butler County). A number other Smith relatives lived in the area as well. They did all of their shopping and business for the most part in Plainfield and they are buried in the same cemetery as Alfred Fuller.

What's missing in this obituary is his second wife and his other six children! On 19 May 1876, Alfred (age 43) married Hannah M Randall in Waverly, Iowa. She was only 20! She was the daughter of Mr & Mrs Reuben Randall. From this marriage, Mabel Fuller Wason, Margaret Fuller Baker, John Randall Fuller, Charles Edward Fuller, Alfred Leroy Fuller, and Harold "Harry" Ruben Fuller. We can presume there was a divorce prior to 1902. In 1902, she remarried to Enoch Benjamin Townsend. Hannah no longer lived in Iowa and her children took a trajectory away from Iowa as well.
