Arthur Glasgow died in May 1822, aged 72 years, so he was born in ABOUT 1750. He married Rebeckah Anderson McNutt McCorkle, in "about 1782." She was the widow of John McCorkle (died Jan 1781) and the daughter of John McNutt and Katherine Anderson.


"Arthur Glasgow, Born 1750. Emigrated from Scotland. A descendant of Earl Glasgow of Scotland. Fought in the battle of Cowpens. Married the widow of John McCorkle, who fell in the battle of Cowpens. His son married on March 9, 1815, Martha McNutt, daughter of Alexander and Rachel (Grigsby) McNutt, one child, Arthur, born 1819. Morton, page 372: Taxpayers "Arthur Glasgow, 3 horses, 7 cattle." page 488: Arthur Glasgow died 1822; married Rebecca (McNutt) MacCorkle about 1782; children Joseph____, Robert ____, Peggy ____, Rebecca, m. John Carr, 1804 ___ Nancy, m. Thos McCleland, 1804." Published in the Lexington Gazette (Virginia), Vol 139, #19, dated 8 May 1941.


"Arthur Glasgow was a descendant of Earl Glasgow, of Scotland," where Arthur emigrated from to our colonies. Per Oren Frederic Morton's, A History of Rockbridge County, Virginia, Supplement, Staunton, VA, 1920, page 304-306 has some data on Arthur and his family through Alexander McNutt Glasgow. Page 253-254, says the 3 Glasgow brothers, Arthur, Robert and Joseph came to our colonies in the late 1700's. The local Glasgow Township was named for this family.

Rockbridge Co., Virginia: Carter Beverly, 513 acres of land, on the water of the South river, adjoining the lands of ARTHUR GLASGOW and others. Carter owed direct taxes for his land for 1815 and his land was to be sold in Richmond, published in the paper. According to the Richmond Enquirer dated 11 Apr 1817, p 4.


Arthur Glasgow's estate inventory and appraisment was recorded in Rockbridge Co., Virginia Will Book 4, p 242-247. On Familysearch, Film # 007646173, 350/527.
