Final Rites Held November 7 For Mrs. C. A. Burwell
Funeral services for Mrs. C. A. (Mirtie) Burwell, 89, of Gravity, held November 9 at the Gravity Methodist Church, were conducted by Rev. Richard G. Viney. Mrs. Burwell died November 7 at Clarinda Municipal Hospital following a lengthy illness. Interment was at Washington Cemetery, Gravity.
Mirtie Belle Douthit, daughter of Phineas and Margaret Douthit, was born Nov. 4, 1879, in Page County, Iowa.
She was united in marriage March 8, 1898, to Clarence Alden Burwell. To this union were born two sons and two daughters: Paul Burwell, Monroe, N. C.; Robert Burwell, Gravity; Edythe Johnson, Congress, Ariz.; Ruth Stearns, Bedford; all of whom survive.
The past 65 years of her life were spent in Taylor County.
Mrs. Burwell was preceded in death by her husband, two sisters and three brothers.
Left to cherish her memories, besides her children, are two brothers, Calvin Douthit of Longmont, Colo.; Harry Douthit of Clarinda, Iowa; seven grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren, other relatives and a host of friends.
She was united with the Methodist Church as a young woman and remained faithful to the church her entire life. She will long be remembered as a kind and loving mother. Her kindness and generous personality were outstanding to her family and all acquaintances.
