Services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 21, at Locust Field Baptist Church, of which he was a member, with the Revs. Jason Buchanan and Charles Carnes officiating.
Burial was in Cogdill-Henry Cemetery with military rites conducted by William E. Dillard American Legion Post 104.
Born May 14, 1930, in Jackson County, he was a son of the late Western B. and Callie Matthews Coggins. A U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War, he was a retired quality manager with Lea Manufacturing.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death his wife, Mattie Coggins, in 2008; two brothers, Carry and Clyde Coggins; and three sisters, Marie McFalls and twins Bessie and Jessie Coggins.
Surviving are one daughter, Shirley Coggins Beck of Sylva; one son, Bruce Coggins of Sylva; two sisters, Myrtle Extine of Sylva, and Edna Dobson of Florida; one brother, Hayes Coggins of Balsam; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
