Born In 1834 In Bloomfield, Edgar County, Illinois. On 2 October 1853 In Jasper County, Illinois, Henry S. Stump a Justice of the Peace, married Isaac and Mary Ann JAMES; born In 1835 In Illinois, daughter of William and Larenna James of Crooked Creek Township, Jasper County, Illinois. Isaac was a farmer. They were parents of three children. Isaac served as a Private In the U.S. Army, Captain Lawler's Company in the War with Mexico In the late 1840's. He also served In the Civil War, a Private In Company D. 97th Illinois Infantry. He enlisted 10 August 1862 In Jasper County, Illinois for three years and was discharged 29 August 1865. ISAAC CHAPMAN died at Rose Hill, Jasper County, Illinois, in March 1866, He Is buried In Hunt Cemetery, Crooked Creek Township, Jasper County, Illinois. [In Russell Harrison book 'Jasper County Veterans' he states that Isaac Chapman deserted from Company D. on I October 1864. Russell was not given all the facts. Isaac was In the Marine General Hospital, New Orleans, Louisiana with malaria fever for the third time on 15 August 1863 he was furloughed, He returned to duty in November 1863. Hospitalized a few more time, was furloughed to go home again I October 1864. He was mustered out of service 29 July 1865 and discharged from service 1 October 1865 with an, as of, date of 29 July 1865. After making his way home to Jasper County, Illinois he was treated by Doctor H.C. Bollinger for Bronchitis and Chronic Diarrhea as well as malaria fever. Doctor S. B. Metheny also treated Isaac for the same symptoms during the periods of his being furloughed home. All this Information may be found In a letter of the War Department, Adjutant General's Office, dated Washington May 25 1883. Letter reference No. 292, 164. This Is also the same reference No. 292, 164 for a pension claim by Isaac's son Thomas J. Chapman.]
