CISCO- Gordon Levi Dunaway, 75, of Cisco passed away March 26, 2009, in Cisco. Services were held at 2:00 PM Saturday, March 28, 2009 at the I-20 Church of Christ, officiated by his nephew Harold Reese. Burial was in Dothan Cemetery under the direction of Kimbrough Funeral Home. Visitation was held at the funeral home from 5:00-7:00 Friday. Mr. Dunaway was born in Dothan, Texas on July 20, 1933 to Daniel Luther and Lilly Lucretia (Stephens) Dunaway. He graduated from Cisco High School, Cisco Junior College and received a Degree in Meteorology from the University of Texas. He served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict and was in Germany for two years. Upon his discharge from the military, he was employed by the Civil Service at the White Sands Missile Range in New Mexico where he was supervisor of the Meteorology Division. He traveled to many space shot locations and worked at Nevada Proving Grounds as a consultant with NASA, and traveled to several foreign countries. He retired in 1988 after almost 33 years of employment. He received numerous letters of appreciation from the Army, Navy and Air Force for his expertise and data provided at launch sites. He returned to the old family home west of Cisco in the Dothan Area where he has been living for the past 18 years. He lived next to his older sister, Ida Hazlewood, where they helped each other for years. Ida faithfully stood by and helped him as his health began to fail. Survivors include his sister, Ida Hazlewood of Cisco; brother, Harlan E. Dunaway and wife, Barbara of Odessa; stepson, Manual Mata and wife Gloria of El Paso; adopted children, Mario Dunaway, Pat Dunaway and husband Joe Duran of El Paso and Gordon Dunaway and wife Beth of Antioch, TN. Nine grandchildren and four great grandchildren also survive. Six brothers and six sisters preceded him in death. Serving as pallbearers are Hubert Donaway, Aaron Dunaway, Donald Hazlewood, James Reese, Duane Hale, and Lyndel Reese. Obit from Eastland Telegram.
