Edmund (Abble) Klein, 95, of Fredericksburg, died Friday, April 9, 2004, at Knopp Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center.

A funeral mass was held Monday, April 12, at 11:30 a.m., at St. Mary's Catholic Church with the Rev. Tony Vilano officiating. Dorothy Weinheimer was the organist.

Interment followed at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery.

A vigil service conducted by Pat Klein was held Sunday, April 11, at 6:30 p.m., in the chapel of Schaetter Funeral Home where the body lay in state prior to the funeral.

Klein was born Oct. 30, 1908, at Tivydale, the son of Willie Klein and Bertha Roeder Klein. He married Sophie Staudt on July 24, 1945, in Fredericksburg. She preceded him in death on Dec. 1, 1986.

He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving from 1942-1945, achieving the rank of sergeant. He was a plumber for many years and also a member of the Gillespie County Old Teamsters Association.

Klein is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Dora and Royce Fowler, and a son, Harry Klein, all of Austin; five grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.

He is also survived by three sisters, two brothers and their spouses, including Hilda and Harold Tatsch and Linda Klein, all of Fredericksburg; Eleanora Klein, Center Point, and Alouis Klein and Felix and Adeline Klein, all of Kerrville.

In addition to his wife and parents, Klein was preceded in death by a son, Lester Klein; three sisters: Anita Tatsch, Nellie Dartez and Gertrude Hale; four brothers: Victor Klein, Roman Klein, and Eugene Klein and Oscar Klein who both died in infancy; two half-sisters and four half-brothers.
