Edward Adolph Leyendecker, son of Mathilda Keller, lived most of his young life in the household of Christian and Maria Loth Leyedecker, a childless couple living in Gillespie County. Edward first appears in the 1910 US Federal Census in the Leyendecker household, and is listed as Christian's son, with Mathilda being listed as Christian's daughter. They are listed the same way in the 1920 and 1930 census records. In 1924, Edward marries (and later divorces) Emma Novian in Gillespie County. In 1931, he marries Lillie Cammack, and together they have six children.

Christian Leyendecker dies in 1934. His will left all his property to his wife (who had died in 1923) during her lifetime. After his wife, his property went to "Mathilda Keller, daughter of Wm. Keller and Sophie Keller, and her son Eddie Leyendecker".

Mathilda died 09 Jan 1966. Her death certificate is signed by Eddie Leyendecker, the informant, who says she was the daughter of William Keller and Sophie Weinheimer. He further states she has never been married. Her grave marker says "Miss Mathilda Keller".

Eddie Leyendecker dies 21 Mar 1974. According to his obituary, he is the son of Mathilda Leyendecker. Christian is not mentioned.

After years of research and family speculation, a DNA test taken by a grandson of Edward Leyendecker, resulted in strong matches to descendants of John Leyendecker, Christian's father. It seems that Christian was telling the truth when he listed Edward as his son .
