Francis Lois Smith, 80, of Coulee City and formerly of East Wenatchee, died Saturday, Oct. 19, 1996, at his home in Coulee City.
He was born on April, 14, 1916, to Roy and Katie (Spencer) Smith at San Antonio, Texas.
At a young age he moved with his family to Arkansas where he was raised and attended school. As a young man he moved to Idaho where he worked in logging. He then moved to Washington state and helped construct Grand Coulee DAm before moving to California where he worked at a shipyard. He then moved to the Wenatchee Valley where he purchased and operated an orchard.
On Aug 1, 1959, he married Jean Barrett Tradewell at Wenatchee. They made their home in East Wenatchee. Mr. Smith continued orcharding until 1982 when he retired. They then moved to Coulee City where they had since made their home.
Mr. Smith was active with starting the Northwest Steelheaders, and Trout Unlimited in the Wenatchee Valley. He ahd coached baseball and enjoyed bowling, fishing and hunting.
Survivors include his wife, Jean, Coulee City, two sons, David Smith, Evanston, Wyo., and Charles Tradewell, Oregon; three daughters, patsy Brown, East Wenatchee, Susan Hall, Coulee City, and Jodi McDowell, Selah; one brother, Paul Smith, East Wenatchee; numerous stepbrothers and stepsisters; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Lena Luker, one sister and two grandchildren.
