He married Beulah Mae Watlington on March 7, 1942, at Colt, Arkansas. In 1945, the couple moved to the Wenatchee area.
He worked in a ship yard, on the dams and was a carpenter for years. He was an owner-operator of his orchard since 1957, where he shared his duties with his sons. Paul loved to play baseball, hunt and fish with his sons, and bowled on a league.
He was a member of the Elks and the Eagles where he loved to dance.
Survivors include his wife, Beulah at the family home; daughter, Lou M. Trippy (Bill) Scherer of Wenatchee; and son, Donnie A. (Jannette) Smith of Wenatchee; half sisters, Lynn Newell, Namoi Cheek, both of Wenatchee, Lenora Walker of Wyoming and Shirley Turner of Oklahoma; half brothers, Eugene Smith, J. P. Smith and Billy Smith all of Oklahoma; a step brother, Ernest Davis of Wenatchee; granddaughters, Tami Partin of Indiana and Dawn Smith of Seattle; grandsons, Tony Trippy, Joe Trippy, Gino Trippy and Michael Smith all of Seattle, and Paul Smith of Japan; and 9 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Thelma, a brother, Louis; a son, Lonnie and a granddaughter, Tina.
Funeral services will be conducted in the Colonial Chapel of the Jones and Jones Funeral Home at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday morning, January 26, 2005. If desired, memorials may be made to the American Lung Assn. Entombment will follow at Evergreen Memorial Park Mausoleum. Viewing will be from 9:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday and prior to the time of the service on Wednesday at Jones and Jones. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Jones and Jones Funeral Home.
