HOLTON -- Fred R. Fisher, 90, Holton, died Monday, April 26, 1999, at a Jackson County nursing home.

Mr. Fisher was a farmer and stockman in the Holton community. He received the Banker's Award in 1969 and the Kansas Environmental Award in 1976. He worked for Boeing Aircraft in Wichita during World War II.

He was born Feb. 2, 1909, in Holton, the son of John S. and Elizabeth Hearn Fisher. He graduated from Holton High School in 1928 and he attended Lawrence Business College in Wichita.

Mr. Fisher was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Holton where he served as a deacon and elder. He also was a member of the first Conservation Committee in Jackson County, and he served on the Jackson County Extension Committee. He was a 41-year member of the Holton Lions Club where he served more than 20 years as either secretary of treasurer. And he was a member of the Jackson County Historical Society.

He was married to Beulah Germann on June 30, 1946. She survives.

Other survivors include a son, John Fisher, Topeka; a daughter, Sandra Brown, Overland Park; two brothers, Oswell Fisher, Hubbard, Iowa, and Don Fisher, Holton; a sister, Irene Green, Houston, Texas; and 10 grandchildren.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at the First Presbyterian Church in Holton.

Burial will be at Holton Cemetery.

Mr. Fisher will lie in state today and until 10 a.m. Thursday at the Mercer Funeral Home in Holton, and after 11 a.m. Thursday at the church.

Memorial contributions may be made either to the Holton Community Hospital, the Jackson County Friends of Hospice, or to the First Presbyterian Church in Holton, and sent in care of the funeral home.
