Fortified by the Sacraments of his Church, Robert Ernest Christman, 83, of Lake Charles died Friday, April 10, 2009 in the peace and comfort of his home.

Mr. Christman was born, raised and educated in Houston, TX.

A graduate of St. Thomas High School and the University of Houston, he lived the last 60 years of his life in Lake Charles. Mr. Christman served in the United States Army during World War II, during which time he received the American Theater Campaign Medal, EAME Campaign Medal with two Bronze Stars, the Good Conduct Medal, *Bronze Star Medal (CO 605 Hq 63rd Infantry Division). Upon returning from the war, Mr. Christman worked in his uncle's retail clothing store. In 1952 he began Schindler - Christman Insurance. He also owned and operated Christman Motor Company, Christman/ Christman Real Estate where he and Mrs. Christman were brokers and Fuel Stop 36 in Chloe. He worked most of his adult life in real estate development. Mr. Christman was an active charter member of Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Church where he was a Knight of Columbus. He was also a member of OLQH Building Committee and the OLQH School Board. He will be most remembered as a "family man". He loved his family and his life in Lake Charles. He will be remembered for dedication to his country, family, and community.

He leaves to honor his memory, his loving wife of 53 years, Louise Cornay Christman of Lake Charles; two sons, Robert E. Christman, Jr. of Lafayette and James Wright Christman and wife Julie of Lake Charles; four daughters, Laura Christman Landry and husband Alfred Smith Landry, Jr. of Lafayette, Louise Christman Hebbeler and husband Regis of Knoxville, TN; Amy Christman VanDenburgh and husband Archer of New Orleans and Catherine "Katie" Christman Swanstrom and her husband Todd of St. Louis, MO; fourteen grandchildren, Austin, Sarah and James Hebbeler, Amy, Claire, Anna and Smitty Landry, Louise and Marguerite VanDenburgh, Robert, Laura and Daniel Christman and Madeleine and Eleanore Swanstrom.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Fern Wright Christman.

Funeral services will be at 1:30 PM Monday, April 13, 2009 in Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Church. Reverend Monsignor James Gaddy will officiate. Bishop Michael Jarrell, Bishop of Lafeyette, and a relative of the family, will preside.

Interment will be in Consolata Cemetery under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home.
