Ewald Louis Schnurstein, the eldest child of Mr and Mrs John Schnurstein, was born Sept 21, 1898, at Tripoli, Iowa. He was baptized the same year, on Nov 6 by Rev J Dilges, and was confirmed in the Lutheran faith in 1913. He graduated from the Tripoli high school with the class of 1916. While attending school he helped out in the Schultz Department store during spare time, and after finishing his high school work he was employed as a regular clerk there. During the passed year he has been assistant to our local station agent. His plans for the future had been duly made, and he was soon to enter a radio school at Milwaukee. A short time ago he was taken ill with influenza, which developed into pneumonia.
After a week's illness he passed away on Wednesday, Dec 11, at 3:15 A M at the age of 20 years, 2 months and 20 days. The funeral services were held on Friday, Dec 13, from the residence and interment was made in the Fremont cemetery. Rev C G Hankammer, officiating. Ewald's untimely departure is mourned by his devoted parents, three sisters, Valitha, Josephine and Esther, a number of other relatives and a host of friends. A brother, Arnold, preceded him in death twelve years ago.

Soon he would enter a Radio School at Milwaukee. However, these plans were not to materialize, for an All guilding Providence saw fit to call him from a promising earthly career to an even more promising course of Life. The messenger to call him hence came, as it were, upon the wings of the present epidemic and claimed his toll after ten days of struggle.
What comfort to be able, as he was, from memory to join his pastor in repeating the beautiful 23rd Psalm, "The Lord is my Shepherd" Later in the day he prepared those attending him for his departure when he said, "This is my last night in Tripoli" and so it proved. Midst the prayers of his loved ones his soul took flight at 3:15 Wednesday am. He was called hence in the prime of his youth, aged 20 year, 2 months, and 20 days.
