Ethel B. Rodkey, 103, of Ridgeview Home, Curwensville, formerly of
Warriors Mark, died December 12, 2005 at Curwensville at Ridgeview
Home.
She was born January 23, 1902 in Spring Mount, the daughter of Cyrus
and Annie (Wilson) Chronister.
On June 1, 1921 she married Raymond Rodkey at her home in Spring
Mount. He died May 2, 1962.
She was the last of her immediate family and is survived by one
niece, Pearl Salisbury of Texas City, Texas.
Mrs. Rodkey served as president and secretary of the Tyrone Daughters
of Union Veterans of the Civil War. During WWII she served in the Air
Defense Command Post at Franklinville, served as a member of PA State
Council of Civil Defense, a member of the Auxiliary to WWI, Barrack
1407, Tyrone and historian. First president of Warriors Mark Christian
Temperance Union and served as Huntingdon Co. membership chairman.
Warriors Mark Grange No. 974 for 54 years as Steward, Lecturer and
Ceres, member of Warriors Mark-Franklin Vol. Fire Co. Aux.
She was a member of Spring Mount Church of the Brethren where she
taught Sunday school for over 50 years. She helped organize the first
Young Peoples Society and served as president and pianist. Member of
the Truth Seekers Class and furnished flowers from her garden for
church functions for many years.
On May 13, 1983 she was chosen Granger of the Year by the Warriors
Mark Grange. In 1986 she was presented with her gold pin denoting 50
years of membership in the Grange.
She was the first licensed practical nurse to serve in the Tyrone
Hospital and solicited funds for the building. She followed her nursing
profession for over 50 years.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, December 14, 2005 at 11 a.m. at
the Bruce E. Cox Funeral Home, Warriors Mark with Rev. Warren
MacEachern officiating. Burial will be at Spring Mount Cemetery.
