George was the first child of James and Rachel Haworth. As a child, he fell ill and lost partial use of his legs. According to local history books, his father platted what would later be Georgetown, and named the new settlement in honor of his first-born son.
Despite the challenges in his life, George worked as a tailor and married Mary Thornton on May 26, 1825. The couple had 12 children: John Milton 1826-1896: Sarah Thornton Haworth 1828-1900; Rachel Haworth 1830-1910; Hamilton S. Haworth 1833-1900;James Madison Haworth 1835-1859; Hannah B. Haworth 1837-1880; Ruth Haworth 1839-?; Queen Vashti Haworth 1841-? Mary Haworth 1846-?; Martha A Haworth 1846-?George Haworth 1851-1852.
He succumbed to cholera in 1855.
