She was born on Aug. 29, 1923 at Spokane to Mathew and Elizabeth (Winker) Mathews.
Betty was a longtime Wenatchee valley resident and enjoyed the community she lived and worked in until the time of her death.
She met and married Edward "Jack" Schneider at Condon, OR in 1943.
Betty was an active member of the Wenatchee valley for many years. She worked with her husband, Jack, doing the daily operations of Schneider's Department Stores until 1969.
She was involved in the Boy Scouts as a leader back in the 1950s while her two sons were involved. Betty was actively involved with the Cashmere Historical Society and Museum, a member and secretary for the Wenatchee Rental Association for many years.
She enjoyed the outdoors, especially by playing golf with her husband. One of Betty's passions was collecting antique glass. Most recently she worked as the owner, operator and manager of Burke-Hill Apartments until the time of her death. Betty enjoyed traveling and took many memorable trips to the Hawaiian Islands, Mexico, Europe, China and all across the United States of America.
Betty is survived by her two sons, Mark Schneider of Wenatchee and Dr. Edward Schneider of Santa Barbara, CA; six grandchildren; sister, Mary Drake Fanning of Walla Walla; numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband Jack in 1992, two brothers, Nick and Mike Mathews and her parents.
Betty was a wonderful and caring person which she expressed to her grandchildren, and through her grandchildren, and the tenants she operated.

A vigil service will be held on Friday, Jan. 21, 2000 at Jones & Jones Colonial Chapel at 5 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, Jan. 22, 2000 at St. Joseph Catholic Church at 10 a.m. with Father Tom Kuykendall and Father Ricardo Villarreal, Celebrants. Viewing will be held on Wednesday from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., Thursday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. and on Friday from 8 a.m. until after the vigil service.
