Williamsburg, VA (UPI) - A Kenton, Ohio, native was one of three servicemen killed Thursday when an Army H-21 helicopter crashed in a heavily-wooded area eight miles from here and caught fire just minutes after it had ferried 10 military students to nearby Camp Perry. The copter, attached to Ft. Belvoir but temporarily based at Ft. Eustis was in formation with two other helicopters on the way back home when it suddenly dropped to the earth and was enveloped in flames. Crews of the other two copters landed near the crash scene but were unable to make a rescue attempt because of the fire. Squads from here and nearby cities rushed to the woods a few minutes later and recovered the bodies from the burning wreckage. The victims were identified as CWO Edward I. Stevens, 35, Woodbridge, VA the pilot; CWO George C. Benard 30, Alexandria, VA., and a native of Kenton, Ohio, the co-pilot; and Spec 5 Washington Williams, 39, Washington.
