Mr. James J. Burns, 76, of Baxter Rd, Calhoun, died at 1:55 p.m. Wednesday (Nov. 22, 1989) in Hamilton Medical Center of Dalton.
Mr. Burns was born in Whitfield County, Aug. 25, 1913, a son of the late James Edward and Angeline Land Burns. He had resided most of his life in Gordon County and before retiring, was employed by Rogers Dye of Dalton.
Mr. Burns was preceded in death by two sisters, Annie Burns Davis and Bulah Burns Powell Anders.
Survivors include his widow, Jean Locke Burns; three sons-Grand, Robert and Marvin Burns, all of Calhoun; stepson, James Collie, of Dalton; two daughters, Miss Tammy Burns of Calhoun, and Mrs Katherine Burns Jordan of Centre, Alabama; step-daughter, Mrs. Sherry Johnson of Chatsworth; a brother, Johnny Burns of Dalton; four sisters, Edith Burns Muse of Calhoun, Ivie Burns Wheat, Radie Burns Martin, and Ella Burns Patton, of Dalton; 30 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral was at 3:00 p.m. Friday (Nov. 24, 1989) from the chapel of Thomas Funeral Home with Rev. Clay Stephens conducting the service. Music was by The Poor Boys of Rome. Pallbearers included Glen Johnson, Shawn Nance, Evans Lawson Jr., David Gill, Jeffery Jordan and James W. Burns Sr.
Interment was in Chandler Cemetery with Thomas Funeral Home of Calhoun in charge of arrangements.
