She was born Carolyn Grace Rutledge on January 11, 1936 on a farm near Brookhaven, Mississippi, the youngest daughter of Marvin Rutledge, Sr. and Alma Cox Rutledge, and spent her childhood on the family farm. After graduating from Brookhaven High School, she attended Methodist School of Nursing in Memphis, Tennessee, earning her RN degree in 1956. Carolyn began her nursing career in Lake Charles, Louisiana, in the nursery of St. Patrick's Hospital. A co-worker there introduced Carolyn to her brother-in-law, Robert C. Landry, and after a four month courtship they were married on August 22, 1958, and then moved to Sulphur to begin raising a family. In 1975, she returned to nursing, working at Holly Hill Nursing Home, and later became Director of Nurses at Oak Park Care Center. In 1984, Carolyn accepted a nursing position with the State of Louisiana, Office of Public Health, retiring in 1998. After her retirement, she continued to work in the Shots for Tots Program until her illness progressed.

She was preceded in death by her parents; five brothers, Marvin Rutledge, Jr., S. Roy Rutledge, Belvard Rutledge, J. Glynn Rutledge and John R. Rutledge; and two sisters, Lillian R. Gold and Annie R. Reagan.

Those left to cherish her memory are her husband, Robert Landry of Sulphur; four children, David Landry of Sulphur, Jennifer Landry Travis and husband Mark, John Landry and wife Lanie, all of Carlyss, and Laura Landry McCormick, of Bartlett, Tennessee. She is also survived by a sister, Joyce R. Ware and her husband Herschel of Jackson, Tennessee and seven grandchildren, Alexis Travis Albarado, Leslie, Julie, Katie and Kellie McCormick, Garrett and Faith Landry; one great grandchild, Kristopher Albarado; and thirty nieces and nephews.

Carolyn was a parishioner of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church for 50 years, and volunteered for several local charities including St. Vincent de Paul, the American Cancer Society, wives of the Lions Club and Care/Help of Sulphur. She whole-heartedly and financially supported the Juvenile Diabetes Association, The American Cancer Society, St. Jude's Children Research Hospital, and Care/Help of Sulphur.

It is with deep sadness that her family lays her to rest, and with great appreciation to her wonderful care-givers, Shawna, Julia and Dozena, and the many friends and family that have strengthened her heart and soul during her long illness. The family would like to express their gratitude to the compassionate staff of Heart of Hospice for their support and dedication to Carolyn's comfort and well being in her final months. Carolyn was a loving and devoted wife, mother, sister, aunt, neighbor and friend, and will be missed. Our profound loss is heaven's gain. Words of comfort may be shared with the family at www.mem.com.
