"Mapleton Item" of 29 Apr 1891 read: "Mrs. Mary Stewart Borst died Wednesday evening, April 22, 1891, at the residence of her son, Wilson, one mile north of Petersburg, aged 86 years, 11 months, and 5 days. Mrs. Borst was a native of Shaver's Creek Valley and was an ancestor of a very large family. Her husband died July 16, 1849 and three of her daughters also preceded her to the grave. They were Mrs. Eliza Wood, of Mapleton, Mrs. Susan Miles, of Shaver's Creek, and Mrs.Nancy Swartz of Alexandria. Eight of her children survive her. They are Eliza Borst, of Tyrone, Mrs. Margaret Myers, of Petersburg, Spencer Borst, Madison Borst, Mrs. Mary Megaghan, Wilson Borst and Jacob Borst, of Shaver's Creek and George Borst, of Centre county. Besides these 54 of her grandchildren and 59 of her great-grandchildren are living. Her remains, borne to the silent city of the dead by six of her grandsons, were interred at Petersburg April 24th, Rev. P. P. Strawinski officiating at the services. Mrs. Borst was a motherly woman, loving and beloved, who will long live in the memory of her acquaintances. She was a devoted member of the Presbyterian church, and was a useful member of the community, even in her (last sickness)."
