T. Porter Dead

N.T. Porter, a well known and respected citizen of this county, died Sunday afternoon at 4 o'clock. The announcement of his death did not come as a shock of surprise to his friends, as his life had been despaired of for more than a week past and most of them understood it was just a question of a few days until the end must come. Mr. Porter's health has never been very rugged, and, in fact, he came to Montana largely to benefit his health. The climate here did all that his friends hoped for in this respect, but a sudden cold, caught from exposure on a long drive, brought back old troubles and a complication of diseases to which his constitution yielded.

Mr. Porter was 49 years of age, a native of Burlington, Vermont. In early manhood he came west to Prescott, Wisconsin, and spent 15 years of his life in Wisconsin and Minnesota, coming to this county from St. Paul some six years ago. For a number of years he was the manager of the Cascade Land Company's business in this county. Lately he went into the stationery business for himself on Central avenue. He was an energetic and successful businessman, and as a husband, father and citizen was a model.

He leaves a wife and six children in this city and a father, 81 years of age, in Vermont. His oldest son, Homer, is a partner in the Industrial Printing company, and Wallace and B.W. Porter, his sons, assisted him in the Central avenue store. The youngest son, Arthur, is 16 years of age and attends school. There are also two girls, Alice and Annie, left to mourn the loss of an indulgent father.
