Bert Porter, Old Resident, Is Dead Here. Came to Great Falls 41 Years Ago; Illness of Week Fatal
Bert W. Porter, 56, who had lived in the vicinity of Great Falls for the past 41 years, died in a local hospital Thursday after an illness of about a week. He is survived by the widow, Annie B. Porter, and a number of other relatives in this section.
Mr. Porter was born in St. Paul in 1874. When he was 15 years old he came to Great Falls with his father, who operated the old Cascade Land and Sheep company. The lived a short distance north of Great Falls. On growing to manhood Bert Porter moved to Great Falls and started the Porter Book store on Central avenue, which he conducted until recently.
Besides the widow, he is survived by three daughters, Helen Porter, a teacher at Mount Holyoke college in Mass.; Mildred Porter, a senior at Montana State college; and Mrs. George E. Morris, who lives in Chanaral, Chile, where her husband holds a position with the Anaconda company; a son, Bert W. Porter, Jr., who lives in Great Falls. Other survivors include two sisters, Miss Jennie Porter, a teacher in Great Falls high school, and Mrs. W. P. King of Aden, Alberta, Canada; and two brothers, Arthur Porter of Los Angeles and Henry Porter of Berkeley, Calif.
Mr. Porter was a member of the Masonic fraternity and belonged to the Congregational church.
