Rebecca was the 3rd of 8 known children (1 son) of Benjamin Prance Petty (1822-1901) & Rebecca Patmore (1818-1881) who married in St Michael's, Bishops, Stortford in 1844. Benjamin next married Ann King (1822-1913) in Bethnal Grren, London in 1882. Ann had first married Joseph Fish (1817-1877) in St Michael's, Bishops Stortford 27 Dec 1840 & had 10 children

Sometime after the death of her mother in 1881, Rebecca came to New Zealand.

She married Bohumir (Gottfried) Lindauer as his 2nd wife, on 15 Sep 1885 in Napier
they had 2 sons
* 1887 - 1928 Hector Carnell Partridge Lindauer
. In 1911 Hector was a Student of Music, living in Woodville. In 1925 he was a Music Teacher living on Pinfold Road, Woodville. He is buried with his mother
* 1888 - 1964 Victor Wilhelm Lindauer
. headmaster and teacher at Russell. He married Elsie May Lovell in 1927, daughter of George Enoch Lovell & Annie Elizabeth Melhuish, of Woodville. He devoted 28 of his 75 years to the study of the marine algae of New Zealand
