Sergeant First Class Benavidez was a member of Company K, 3rd Battalion, 7th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Infantry Division. He was initially listed as Missing in Action against the enemy on April 25, 1951 in North Korea. Later it was determined he was killed on that date. Sergeant First Class Benavidez was awarded the Purple Heart, the Combat Infantryman's Badge, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Presidential Unit Citation and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal.
