He was a native of Buncombe County and lived most of his life in Haywood County. He was the son of the late Wesley and Caddie Warren Medford. He was preceded in death by three sisters, Sybil Roberts, Rose Ellen Hames and Kate Smathers and two brothers, Paul and Rev. Joe Medford.
He retired from Champion International with 39 years of service and was a member of Morning Star United Methodist Church.
In addition to his wife of 64 years, Cora Wilson Medford of Canton, he is survived by a daughter, Susan Medford Sorrells and her husband, Jim of Canton; a son, James Robert Medford and his wife, Martha of Spring, TX; four sisters, Louise Miller and Thelma Inman both of Canton and Lura Mae West and Maxine Liverman both of Asheville; two brothers, Calvin Medford of Clyde and Dalton Medford of Granite Falls, NC; three grandchildren Suzann Adams of Simpsonville, SC, Anna Giles of Houston, TX and Matthew Sorrells of Canton; five great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 29, 2004 at Morning Star United Methodist Church with the Reverend Doug Love and Reverend Jeff Medford officiating. Burial will follow at Morning Star Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at Wells Funeral Homes & Cremation Services of Canton. At other times, the family will be at the residence of Susan and Jim Sorrells, 131 Pepaw Lane, Canton. Memorials may be made to Morning Star Cemetery Association Trust Fund, P.O. Box 1746, Canton, NC 28716.
