Geraldine Smith Adams, daughter of M. & Mrs. Orrin B. Smith was born near Rockford, Illinois and died at her home in Smithland, Iowa at the age of 86 years, 4 months, and 22 days.

Her mother having died, her father started West in 1849 or 1850, leaving his 2 daughters in Illinois to attend school.

In 1852, he came for his girls who with their uncle and aunt came to Smithland in a covered wagon, arriving there in October when Geraldne was 11 years old.

In 1860, she with her father and others went to Colorado, where the next 7 years were spent.

In 1867, they returned to Smithland and she took over the care of her father's home as her stepmother was an invalid.

She was married to J. W. Adams on July 13, 1869, nearly 60 years ago.

They had 3 children: Alice, who passed away in 1896, and Marion.

Will who with their father, Wallace Adams: 6 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, and 3 sisters are left to mourn her passing.
