"CAPTAIN ANDREW FISHER, the third son and sixth child of Col. Daniel Fisher, was born at Dedham, Massachusetts, October 1, 1781, taken by his parents to Newport, N. H., and there learned the hatter's trade with his brother Nathaniel. In 1802, accompanied by his brother Seth, he went to Belpre, Ohio, where his parents had gone to live. As early as 1806, he moved to Marietta, and for several years carried on his business there. Subsequently he went back to Belpre, and was living there in 1824. Afterwards he moved to Coolville and Frost, Ohio, and, in the latter place, he died, November 6, 1865, in the 85th year of his age. He was buried in Belpre, where a tombstone marks his grave. Down to 1816 he worked at his trade, but at that time he secured a small boat, and as captain ran it on the Ohio and Mississippi rivers. He also carried on, sometimes, the work of a farmer ; but his business ventures were not always prosperous. In religion he became a Universalist, and emblems of masonry are engraved on his tomb. He was noted for his long arms.
July 13, 1806, while he was at Marietta, he married Polly (or Mary) Gray, of Waterford, Ohio, daughter of Capt. William Gray, who had seen service under "Mad" Anthony Wayne at the storming of Stony Point, during the Revolutionary War. She died, August 17, 1823, in her 38th year, and lies buried, beside her husband, at Belpre, Ohio, with a tombstone over her grave. By her, Captain Andrew Fisher had six children : Maria, Amanda Matilda, Theodore Ames, Elizabeth Dana, Mary, and Austin G." from ANCESTORS AND CHILDREN OF COL. DANIEL FISHER AND HIS WIFE SYBIL DRAPER by Robert Stewart, 1899, pp. 25-26.
