Gertrude Lawanda Brooks, 80, passed away Tuesday, March 31st, 2009 at her home in Yukon, Oklahoma. She was born in Holdenville, Oklahoma on January 2, 1929, the daughter of the late Clarence Henry and Bessie Audra Opal (Linton) Poe. Gertrude moved to the Oklahoma City area in 1946 and graduated from Central High School. She moved from Oklahoma City to Yukon and was a member of Resurrection Lutheran Church. Gertrude worked for Standard Testing and Engineering as a bookkeeper and secretary for many years until her retirement. Preceding her in death are her husband, John Dale Brooks, her parents, two sisters and one brother. Survivors include her son, Johnny Glen Dale Brooks and wife Espranza, daughter, Lawanda A. Rosales, four brothers, seven grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren. Visitation will be held Thursday 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Friday 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.Services will be held at 3:00 p.m., Friday, April 3, 2009 at Yanda & Son Funeral Home in Yukon, Oklahoma with Pastor Tim Dearhamer officiating. Interment will follow at the Yukon Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the American Lung Association (3160 W. Britton Rd., Suite E., Oklahoma City, Oklahoma 73120).
