The funeral for Dr. Galen Glick Craun Sr., 74, of 2951 S. Main St., Harrisonburg will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at the Harrisonburg First Church of the Brethren.

The Revs. J.S. Glick and Robert L. Sherfy will conduct the service. Burial will be in the Oak Lawn Cemetery in Bridgewater.

Dr. Craun died at Rockingham Memorial Hospital early Wednesday morning.

He was a son of the late William A. Craun and Ida Glick Craun and was born April 18, 1911, in Augusta County.

He graduated from Daleville Academy in 1928 and received a bachelor's degree from Bridgewater College in 1932. Upon graduation from the Medical College of Virginia in 1940, he served his internship at the C & O Hospital in Huntington, W.Va.

Dr. Craun was resident surgeon at the Medical College of Virginia from 1942 until 1944 and had been a general and orthopedic surgeon in Harrisonburg since 1945. He had been a member of the staff of Rockingham Memorial Hospital for 25 years and retired in 1970.

He was a member of the First Church of the Brethren, was a member and past president of the Harrisonburg Rotary Club, and was district chairman of the Boy Scouts of America. He was also a member of the Rockingham County Medical Association, Medical Society of Virginia, Southeastern Medical Association and the Southeastern Surgical Congress.

On June 21, 1940, he married the former Beulah Spencer, who survives.

Also surviving are two sons, Galen G. Craun Jr. of Harrisonburg and William Arthur Craun II of Bridgewater; a daughter, Karen C. Harmon of Harrisonburg; a sister, Eva Bowman of Bridgewater Home; a brother, Emory Craun of Bridgewater; six grandchildren; and two step-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at the Lindsey Harrisonburg Funeral Home 7:30-8:30 p.m. today.

Memorial contributions may be made to Rockingham Memorial Hospital or the Harrisonburg Rescue Squad.
